It’s the season of giving, but do you know what
you are really giving out?
Stay Safe Shopping Online
Christmas is getting close and nearly as many people will shop online as shop in stores this holiday season. From a larger selection to the convenience, online shopping is very popular. How do you know that your financial information is safe though?
Here are some tips to help protect you this holiday season.
Shop on Secure Websites
Make Your Passwords Secure
It seems everything requires a password and we start to use the same password for everything to make it easy to remember them. To be more secure you should make sure you have a different password for each site. This will protect you should a vendor have a data leak where the hacker gains access to that password and will try to utilize it on other store websites. If you have stored your credit card on these sites they will be able to make purchases utilizing your card.
Avoid Shopping on Public Wi-Fi
Whether it’s a restaurant or coffee shop, we love to utilize public Wi-Fi. During the holiday season this could mean ordering the items we couldn’t get locally. What you may not know is that a public network is vulnerable to allowing people to steal data off the network looking for your personal information such as usernames/passwords or your card numbers. Either wait to shop on a secure network or utilize a virtual private network (VPN) on your device.
